Family Week: Learning Together

Recently St Joseph’s School Hectorville celebrated Family Week: Learning Together. The week was planned to increase the engagement of parents in their children’s learning. A number of activities were held throughout the week.

The Exhibition of Learning night provided the opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classroom and gain an insight into how their child is progressing this term. Parents also visited the photographic exhibition in the Hall which showcased learning from Preschool – Year 7. For the past two years the school has developed its vision for learning ‘Ignite Engage Achieve’ and this vision is underpinned by four principles, Differentiation, Metacognition, Creativity and Collaboration. The photographs attempted to show parents the learning experienced by students each day.

A group of parents from the Parent Engagement Group assisted with the planning of Family Week. The week also offered sessions for parents to learn more about mathematical investigations and how we teach metacognition. Morning and afternoon teas were also held throughout the week while the community were invited to carve out our vision Ignite Engage Achieve in hebel stone. Mass was celebrated on the final day with twelve parents attending school in the afternoon to share with classes their occupation, passion or interest.

Family Week was a wonderful celebration of learning involving the whole community, students, staff and parents.
