Sunday: the study tour group enjoyed a walking tour within the walled city, with a volunteer guide from the Foundation Reggio Children. Our guide was Andrea who escorted our small group to the many landmark highlights of the old city of Reggio. We were entertained with many local folklore and historical stories along the way. From the early Roman planning of the city, notorious fraudulent Art Dealers, infamous trade merchants and community architectural reformation.
Fortunately Andrea was able to gain permission for the group to have a private tour of the Sala del Tricolore where the first Italian horizontal tricolour coloured green, white and red was designed and proclaimed in 1797.
Making our way back to the hotel we stumbled across the Museo Civica which as part of its current program was hosting Alice in Wonderland themed activities throughout the museum!
Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is, Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle!” Alice
Mad hatters, tea parties, mark making with vegetable dye, story telling and dress ups such creativity in a museum and evidence of community and children at play!
The Piaza was alive with Nona’s and Nono’s, Mamma’s and Papa’s, Bambinis …… The principle of “us” was tangible!
Tomorrow the seminars, workshops and visits begin. Given our Reggio Emilia immersion experiences so far – we cannot wait for the next phase!
